As restrictions caused by COVID-19 start to loosen, the Church of St. Timothy released a video outlining some of the precautions that are being implemented to carry out the celebration of Mass in a safe manner.
Parishioners are being asked to put masks on before exiting their cars in order to protect those around them.
Additionally, congregants are asked to refrain from coming in physical contact with others, maintaining a distance of 6 feet from one another to lessen the chances of contaminating one another in the case of being asymptomatic, the church announced in the video.
Upon entering the cathedral, congregants will notice that there is no holy water available. This is for the safety of the congregation in an attempt to stop the transmittal of disease.
Rather than passing the collection basket, congregants will have the opportunity to place offerings in the baskets upon entering and leaving the cathedral. This will further help to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Congregants will have to give their name and greet the hospitality minister upon arrival and check-in, with the minister screening everyone, the church reported in the video. Families must also register upon arrival.
The hospitality minister will also be in charge of helping to usher congregants to their seating. This will ensure that congregants are appropriately spaced from one another to maintain proper social distancing.
Social distancing will be observed throughout the duration of Mass. To help accomplish this, certain pews will be unavailable throughout the service, church staff explained in the video.
To receive the Holy Community and the Final Blessing, the Church of St. Timothy had to make several changes for health safety. Parishioners will follow a marked path as directed by ushers and will be given the Eucharist in the hand at a safe distance. After receiving the Eucharist, parishioners may exit out of the cathedral and proceed to their cars, staff said in the video.
The Church of St. Timothy will continue to offer updates on social media pages as developments occur.
