The Rev. Tom Wilson of All Saints Catholic Church in Lakeville shared another periodic podcast on the parish's Facebook page on July 7.
“As I have been praying over the last several weeks and months, I have been reflecting on a concept I have identified as ‘hinge moments,’” Wilson said. “Hinge moments are those places in our life in which our life has a change of direction. Oftentimes those are made by our own decision.”
Sometimes they are forced upon individuals, Wilson said, but often they are a combination of choice and circumstance.

“It is not difficult to recognize and to see that we are at a hinge moment in our world, in our nation, in our state, in our local community, our parish family, in our families and, for many of us, in our own individual lives,” Wilson said.
The pandemic and concerns arising from it are major factors in the current global state of affairs, Wilson said. Hinge moments connect the past with the present and lay the groundwork for what will come in the future, Wilson said. They are also anxiety-inducing and mysterious.
“I wish I could tell you exactly what is going to happen, exactly the punch list of things we have to do to prepare for this hinge moment in our life, but I can’t,” Wilson said.
While Wilson said that he is not capable of saying what is going to happen, he does know that in order to thrive as a community, the parish and its laypersons must be willing to submit to God’s will, serve Him and be faithful to his call.
“Heaven knows there is a lot surrounding us that is contrary to the Lord and His desire for us and His world,” Wilson said. “It is absolutely critical that we be faithful enough and trusting enough to choose for Jesus and to labor for Him and with Him in the fields in a world that needs him so desperately.”
