The Michigan Catholic Conference wants to ensure voters are making their choices in the November election with an attitude of civility, clarity and compassion.

"The nonpartisan #CivilizeIt campaign encourages Catholics to go through the 2020 election season in a way that recognizes the human dignity of others," the Michigan Catholic Conference said in a post on Facebook. "Participants are encouraged to take a three-part pledge, which Catholics across Michigan have already been taking."

Catholic Michigan residents across the state have been pledging to move forward into the election season in a manner that will recognize the human dignity of others.

"I pledge civility to recognize the human dignity of those with whom I disagree, treat others with respect, and rise above attacks when directed at me," Catholics pledged in a video posted on YouTube. "I pledge clarity to root my political viewpoints in the Gospel and a well-formed conscience, which involves prayer, conversation, study and listening. I will stand up for my convictions and speak out when I witness language that disparages others' dignity, while also listening and seeking to understand others' experiences."

More information about the pledge can be found here.
