St. Francis Xavier shares thoughts on "unofficial saints" who are ordinary but who live in extraordinary ways. | Stock image

Ordinary people live in extraordinary ways, becoming vessels of Divine justice and mercy, according to a Gospel meditation from St. Francis Xavier Church in Windom on All Saints’ Day.

“I remember as a child the meticulousness my father would bring to a task. Whether it be tending to a chore in the yard, repairing something, or painting a room, the tiniest of every detail demanded his attention. He had great patience,” the meditation said in the church bulletin

We all can remember times in our lives when we were given a solid example of how we can do something or live.

There are many people, in fact, who are ordinary but lived in extraordinary ways. It is these types of people who are our saints.

“They have an openness to being used and become vessels of Divine justice, mercy, and presence. They call us to the ‘more’ of life and point us to the Gospel in all of its simplicity and splendor,” the bulletin reported.

While they may seem poor and meek in the world’s eye, they are blessed by God’s metrics. While they are rejected by the world, they are elevated by God.

“All of the saints in heaven and on earth form this cloud of witnesses who journey with us as we make our way through life. They offer us inspiration, wisdom, intercession, and support. They direct us towards true happiness and remind us that we are called to be saints,” the bulletin reported. “All it takes is desire, love, and fidelity."

We can learn much from these unofficial saints fo the church who sit beside us every Sunday, and are our neighbors and ordinary people we meet daily.

Thanks to the devotion of these individuals, we are able to see very real examples of what it means to be a follower of Christ. These ordinary people served God in extraordinary ways.
