While today's society uses good looks to put a value on a worthy wire, the Book of Proverbs focuses on different characteristics that make a worthy wife, the Rev. Kurt Farrell of St. Theodore Catholic Church said in the church bulletin

"Interestingly enough, extraordinary good looks is not listed among them, and yet, it would appear, judging from the media and television, good looks are all that matters in selecting a mate in our world today," Farrell said in the bulletin.

He'd be interested in surveying married couples five years into their marriages to ask them if virtue or beauty was the more important quality in their mate.

"When you have to live with a person for better or worse for the rest of your life, virtue takes on a whole new meaning. If your mate is not considerate, loving, and kind to you, why would you care what they looked like?" Farrell said.

There is no fault in wanting to look good for the person you love, but it's important to know that good looks cannot replace kindness and love.

"Young men and women both should take to heart the words of the Book of Proverbs in choosing a mate, I think it might save them some heartache," he said in the bulletin.
