The Archdiocese of Saint Paul-Minneapolis Office of Vocations' recent "One Day for One Priest" crowdfunding event surpassed its goal of raising $120,000 to support a young man on his journey to the priesthood.

The effort raised $121,030, about 101% of the goal, donated by 258 supporters, according to the campaign's page at Classy.org, which is accepting the donations.

This year's event was the latest by The Saint Paul Seminary, which each year attempts to raise $120,000 through the "One Day for One Priest initiative." The amount raised pays for one seminarian's path to the priesthood.

The one-day event took place Nov. 16, a few days after National Vocation Awareness Week, an annual event observed this year Nov. 7-13. According to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops website, National Vocation Awareness Week is a time to pray for and support those considering a vocation to the priesthood, diaconate or other consecrated life.

Classy.org reported that 90 men currently are in formation at The Saint Paul Seminary and that 20 expect to be ordained into the priesthood next year.

Almost 5,000 seminarians currently are enrolled in seminaries across the country, where there are more than 37,000 priests, almost 19,000 permanent deacons, more than 45,000 religious sisters, and almost 4,000 religious brothers, according to the USCCB.

The Archdiocese of Saint Paul-Minneapolis promoted the "One Day for One Priest" crowdfunding effort in a post to its Facebook page Nov. 12, near the end of National Vocation Awareness Week.

"During this week, National Vocations Awareness Week, we lift up the good work of our seminaries!" the archdiocese stated. "The archdiocesan men attend one of the following:  St. John Vianney Seminary, The Saint Paul Seminary or the Pontifical North American College Seminary. As you know, the seminary community depends on the generosity of our benefactors and friends.  Holy, healthy, strong and joyful Catholic priests are important as ever! Please consider supporting One Day for One Priest!  a crowdfunding effort to benefit The Saint Paul Seminary."
