The Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis invited the community to participate in Simpson Housing Services' 37th annual march and service on Dec. 16, held in memory of homeless individuals who have died in Minnesota.

Over 8,000 Minnesotans have suffered homelessness as of January 2020, according to USICH.

“We invite you to join Simpson Housing Services for its annual Homeless Memorial March and Service later this evening.  The event honors the memory of those who have died while homeless in Minnesota. Please keep our most vulnerable neighbors in your thoughts during these coldest darkest days,” Catholic Charities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis shared on its Facebook page.

The vigil and silent march took place at Plymouth Congregational Church in Minneapolis.  The march ended at the same location and was followed by a service of remembrance which included reading the names of homeless people who have died in the last year. This service was streamed via Facebook Live.

Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis has joined forces with Ramsey County to help those suffering from homelessness. One of the greatest risks to the homeless during winter in places like Minnesota is dying from exposure to extreme temperatures.

Catholic Charities has a legacy of helping individuals in need throughout the country. In St. Paul and Minneapolis, the group works to provide meals, shelter and opportunities to connect individuals with jobs. They also help with finding housing and medical care for individuals in need.

Individuals interested in partnering with Catholic Charities can visit its website to make a donation or volunteer.
