Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud is hoping to fill its need for volunteer drivers to help with its Meals on Wheels program. 

Meals on Wheels is a charity which provides healthy meals to those who are older and unable to drive themselves to get food. 

“BECOME A MEALS ON WHEELS DRIVER! Our Meals on Wheels program is in great need of drivers in the St. Cloud area. Meals are picked up at Whitney Senior Center, and drivers deliver 8 to 12 meals on average. Volunteers practice non-contact delivery and deliver a week’s worth of meals to each senior.

Meals are delivered Mondays and Wednesdays with a pick-up time between 10:30 and 11:45 a.m.  If you would like to volunteer as a driver, visit ccstcloud.org/volunteer, email volunteer@ccstcloud.org or call 320-650-1645 for more information. 

According to Feeding America, 5.2 million seniors, roughly 1 in 4, experienced food insecurity in 2019. It is possible that this statistic has worsened since the COVID-19 pandemic and the price of food going up. 

According to Catholic Charities of St. Cloud, “being a senior looks very different today than it did just a decade ago. Two things, however, remain unchanged: seniors want to be healthy and lead independent lives. Catholic Charities Senior Dining provides healthy, nutritious meals to persons age 60 and over, helping seniors get well and stay well.”

Meals on Wheels provides healthy meals at lunchtime to at-risk, homebound, ill and vulnerable persons who are 60 years old and over in 44 communities throughout Central Minnesota. The best way to coordinate the delivery of meals to yourself or a loved one is through contacting the senior dining coordinator.
