The Episcopal Ordination of Bishop-elect Joseph A. Williams will occur next week, the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis recently announced on its Facebook page.
“The Episcopal Ordination of Bishop-elect Joseph A. Williams will take place Tuesday, January 25, Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle,” the archdiocese wrote. “A public reception will follow. The Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis thanks all attendees for wearing masks during the various ordination events.”
The ordination will take place at 1 p.m. at the Cathedral of Saint Paul and will be followed by a reception that will be livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page.
According to a Facebook post by the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis on Dec. 10, Pope Francis appointed Father Joseph Williams in 2020 as the next auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
Williams is a priest in the archdiocese and pastor of the Church of Saint Stephen and the Church of the Holy Rosary in Minneapolis, along with being the archdiocese’s Vicar for Latino Ministry, according to the church.
He was born in Stillwater, Minn., in 1974 as the third of nine children and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota, earning a degree in philosophy/pre-theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville.
Williams also studied at The Saint Paul Seminary, where he earned a Masters of Divinity, and was ordained to the priesthood in May 2002. He is the brother of Father Peter Williams, who serves as a priest in the archdiocese, according to the church.
KSTP reports that Father Williams also has served as chaplain to the Minnesota House of Representatives, along with being the Coordinator of Archdiocesan Outreach to Persons with Disabilities.
