“Saint Michael: Meet the Angel,” a documentary that focuses on the most powerful being under the Trinity and Mary, and his fight against evil, will premiere Thursday at select theaters. The film was directed by Wincenty Podobinski.

"We present to you the story of St. Micheal the Archangel - in the Christian and Jewish tradition one of the most powerful heavenly beings,” the Facebook page for the movie says. “It was Michael who first stood up to Lucifer when he rebelled against God. The film shows the true victory of good over evil. It presents the figure of an Angel, as well as stories of people who experienced his intercession and great power in their lives.” 

There will be three showings in Minneapolis, all starting at 7 p.m., at the showplace ICON at The West End, AMC Rosedale 14 and AMC Southdale 16. For those outside the Minneapolis area, check the Fathom Events website to see if there is a theater near you.

Catholics consider Michael to be the greatest of the three archangels. LifeSite News interviewed the film’s producer, Oscar Delgado.

"I believe the Faith is being lost because we have lost our devotions. For example, the belief in Purgatory,” Delgado told LifeSite News. “People actually believe these days that when you die you go to heaven and play with your dogs.” 

Delgado explains the history of the Gargano Shrine. It used to be a cave of devils until St. Michael consecrated it, with Michael telling the local bishop, “Do not consecrate the Shrine for I have already done this. Start offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass." 

Delgado also discusses Pope Leo XIII's call to recite the St. Michael Prayer after a vision of an evil world. ”Your first line of defense is your Guardian Angel. If you don’t invoke his aid, you’re open to demonic attack,” he recounted for the article. “Your Guardian Angel is still there. But people don’t invoke their aid anymore.” 

The film is being shown at a one-day special event Thursday, which is St. Michael's feast day. People can find tickets by visiting saintmichaelmovie.com. 

An article in the North Texas Catholics says the St. Michael film "gives us insight into this defender of the Church, opponent of Satan, and rescuer of souls at the hour of death. He is portrayed as a friend and a warrior for today.”

When the film touches on the Gargano Shrine, Father Wladyslaw Suchy, the rector of the Shrine, talks about the history behind it. 

Padre Pio famously visited the Gargano Shrine where he developed a devotion to St. Michael. 

The film also shows famous artworks, churches and cultural experiences dedicated to St. Michael and his defeat over Satan. 

“I believe that attending the film on the same day as St. Michael's feast day will give each person a special grace in understanding the power of St. Michael and honor him by learning so much more about him,” Delgado said in that article. “Knowledge is critical in being able to invoke the Holy Angels, especially St. Michael.” 

St. Michael is the leader of all the holy angels and head of God's army, Catholic.org says. He has four main responsibilities: to fight Satan and his evil works, escort the faithful to Heaven, be a champion and leader of the Church and call humanity from earth to be judged. 

As St. Michael is an angel — pure spirit, and not a human being — little is known besides what it is in the Bible. Catholic.org notes in the book of Daniel, St. Michael is mentioned as a helper and that he will stand for "the children of the people". In the Epistle of St. Jude, St. Michael guards the tombs of Moses and Eve, battling with the devil. In Revelation St. Michael is mentioned in his battle with the dragon.
