Joey Stock signed with the Boston Red Sox on Aug. 28, a few months after graduating from Saint John’s University in Collegeville.

Stock signed as a pitcher with Boston and got a $20,000 signing bonus, SoxProspects.com reported. The 23-year-old pitcher is a right hander and was an undrafted free agent in 2020. He graduated from Saint John’s High School in Minnesota. He throws four-seam and two-seam fastballs, with his four-seamer reaching 94-96 mph.

The Red Sox assigned him to the Gulf Coast League Red Sox, the team’s website said.

After spending his third summer with the St. Cloud Rox in the Northwoods League, Stock likely will enter an instructional league or receive private training by Red Sox staff, Saint John’s University said on its website.

Major League Baseball has told Minor League Baseball that it will not be providing it with players for the 2020 season, eliminating a Minor League season in 2020, MiLB.com said on its website.

Earlier this year, fellow Saint John’s alum Ben Bartch, an offensive lineman, was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.
